Connect Phrase TMS

Connect your Topicary project to Phrase (formerly Memsource) so completed translations flow back in automatically. You export content as XLIFF and create the translation jobs in Phrase yourself; when a job completes, Phrase calls back to Topicary, which downloads the translated XLIFF and imports it into the topic's translations.

The connection is inbound only. Topicary does not push content to Phrase or create Phrase projects for you. You send content to Phrase by exporting XLIFF from the Localize content and uploading it in Phrase. The connection handles the return trip: importing completed translations back into Topicary.

Before you begin

This feature requires the Enterprise capability tier (the Business ). During the beta, every project is on the free Solo tier, so this feature is locked by default: go to Settings ▸ Billing and request Enterprise access to unlock it.

Only project members with the Admin can configure this feature. Authors and Reviewers do not have access to these settings.

Connect your Phrase account

  1. Go to Settings in the sidebar.

  2. Open the Integrations tab.

  3. Click Add Integration and select the Phrase provider.

  4. Enter your Phrase API token (generate one in Phrase under Settings > Integrations > APIs).

  5. Optionally set a Base URL if your Phrase instance is on a non-default host (the default is https://cloud.memsource.com/web).

  6. Click Test Connection to verify the credentials.

  7. Once the connection succeeds, give the integration a name and click Create.

Send content for translation

Export the content from Topicary, then create the jobs in Phrase yourself:

  1. Open the Localize content in the topic editor.

  2. Export the topic as an XLIFF 2.0 file for the target locale (or export all locales at once).

  3. In Phrase, create a translation project and upload the exported XLIFF as a job.

Set up the return callback

Configure Phrase to notify Topicary when a job completes, so translations import without manual steps:

  1. Go to Settings > Integrations and open your Phrase integration card.

  2. Copy the webhook URL shown on the card. It is unique to this integration and already includes the projectId and a secret query parameter.

  3. In Phrase, register that URL as a job-completion webhook.

The webhook URL embeds a secret used to authenticate incoming callbacks. Treat it as a credential: anyone with the URL can post job results to your project.

Auto-import completed translations

When a Phrase job completes and the webhook fires:

  1. Topicary downloads the translated XLIFF file from Phrase.

  2. The translated content is parsed and imported into the topic's translations for the target locale.

  3. The translation status updates to Translated in the translation panel.

If you do not set up the webhook, import the completed XLIFF manually from the translation panel instead.

Translation workflow

A typical workflow:

  1. Author content in your source locale.

  2. Export topics as XLIFF from the translation panel.

  3. Create a project in Phrase and upload the XLIFF; translators work in Phrase's editor.

  4. Completed translations import back into Topicary through the webhook (or by manual XLIFF import).

  5. Review translations in the translation panel.

  6. Publish the localized publication target.

Changes to content reach your published site within 24 hours as its cache refreshes. To push updates live right away, click Update on the affected .
